SVD Camo

The SVD Camo is a sniper rifle that features ghillie camouflage and goes well with the Ghillie Suit in Chernarus' open field areas. It uses 7.62x54mm ammo and doesn't share its ammunition with any other weapon.

The ghillie camouflage can come in handy when you need to camouflage yourself from your target, especially if they have a superior field of vision, such as when hunting you down from a helicopter. However, both the suit and the rifle make no difference when sneaking around zombies.

Another attractive feature of the gun is the intuitive scope. Featuring a single zoom level with integrated rangefinder, however not zero-able, the weapon can be great for both starter and veteran snipers. However, the only level of zoom may not be enough to engage targets that are very far away.

Testing on the firing range has shown the arrows are zeroed at the following ranges, with the arrow covering the target:

  • Center: 225m
  • -1 Arrow: 300m
  • -2 Arrow: 500m
  • -3 Arrow: 700m
  • -4 Arrow: 925m
  • Tip of the vertical line: 1000m

The large arrow above the horizontal line is for ranges 100m or less.

The rangefinder marks the height of a 1.8m tall person standing, while the 0.5 curve is calibrated for the height of a crouching person. Keep in mind that targets' legs appear to sink into the grass from far away, and be sure to compensate for this when using the rangefinder.

Actually, the top chevron isn't useless, it's for ranges 100m or less.

I currently have this gun ingame and the biggest issue I have is the ammo is extremely rare. I have, not even once, seen a clip for it except when I actually found the gun.

I found 10 mags for this weapon at an crash site at NW airfield.

While it doesn't work with NV and the ammunition is extremely tough to find i have to say i have found one of these weapons and thus went into extensive single player OA testing and this is definitly such a lovely weapon. As compared to the DMR it's infinitely more accurate and will hit on the spot pretty much everytime, after getting it dailed in i could hit a person lying down at ranges between 0 and 800 meters every single time all the time without fault. It takes a bit to get used to, it's harder to say reckonize a -2.3 dispersion from a chevron because it's a chevron and not a mildot, but at the same time it gives you a better point of refrence as you can locate certain ranges to certain orientations within the same chevron and it's more easily to gauge how far you are aiming below or above one.

I have not yet looked at the rangefinder feature of this weapon but concidering how accurate it is to fire i'm without doubt that it's going to function perfectly. Currently hoarding 6 magazines for this weapon and trying to find a few more before going into situations where i would actually want to use them. Obviously currently running an M14 AIM to back it up for regular zed-killing and otherwise short-range protection purposes. Dropped my DMR in favour of the M14 after i dropped my M14 in favour of the SVD. It is tough making a choice, especially if you have NVG's, but in the end i feel the sexyness and sheer effectiveness in accuracy of the SVD has just balanced it into my favour of "can't miss". Funnily enough i'm having less trouble finding SVD's as i am finding the ammunition for it. Heli crash just now, 2 SVD's, 3 magazines....

Hoping the normal SVD (non-camo) will be added someday as well and the ammo made a bit more common or something like that. It's such a smexy weapon i'm loving it <3 :D

Having used an SVD on an exchange posting, i thought i would clear up the "top chevron" usage mystery! Basically, as has already been hinted at, it is for close range snapshots. If target is under 150 meters, (real world usage, but should apply here) then when scoped, you bracket the torso of the target. As in you plant the apex of the top chevron under the chin (or close enough) of the target, and as long as the level-line is at belt height or abouts, then the round will impact the chest or abdomen of the target. You can use the same out to zero range, but the torso will not fit the bracket and you will have to factor in drop of the round more accurately to engage the torso, but around the 150 mark, bracket, and blow away. I cant remember the exact point markings for range estimation, but the figures quoted seem to be right.

I'd also like to note I've found the military UAZ spawns with 20x 30rd. AK mags 8x HE hand grenades and 10x SVD Camo mags

The SVD Camo is an amazing sniper rifle, that has great accuracy, good power, and a decent magazine capacity. Ammunition is rare, but if you're lucky enough to find a 7.62 ammunition crate, you'll have more than enough mags for any firefight. This gun is basically a DMR with a 10 round magazine, but I find that the camo netting and scope more than make up for it's limited ammo. This gun has kept me hidden from bandits patrolling Stary Sobor, and has won a numerous amount of long range engagements at the airfields. Definitely worth it's rarity.

By IonPixel on 2012/07/18 at 10:21am

My friend has this. He strictly uses it when there are players in the area. Other than that, he has an M4 alternate.

By lopan on 2012/07/07 at 7:03pm

Once you get used to Zeroeing it with the small scale on the bottom left of the scope, its a fantastic gun.Simply Measure the target heighth from foot to head in the small scale zero according to scale.

By Mr-Schpiffey on 2012/09/01 at 7:04pm

I don't know if it was a spawn, or if another player dropped it, but I found this in the Southern Barracks at the NWAF. Loved the gun, unfortunately, I could never find ammo for it and my luck finding crashed helis is not that good.

By UncleMagic on 2013/06/05 at 1:15pm

Love this gun. Found one in the bunker under Object A2, I don't think I've ever missed a shot with this weapon

By GeggaSWE on 2013/05/27 at 2:42am

Fricking love this Weapon. The only downside is u cant use w NVG and hard to find ammo. But once u have it with ammo its a beast. When u learn the scope u dont need to rangefind, zeroing etc. Just use the scope and kill some campers.

By StealthAssassin on 2013/05/25 at 5:22am

I just founded one in crash site, but only 2 mags, where should i look else for mags beside The Barracks in NW AF and Crash Sites?

By Wearisome on 2013/02/26 at 4:36pm

hi there, wearisome here just to set the record straight this rifle is a fine instrument of badassery iv been alive on my server for about three months not countin a nasty glich that booted me out of a heli while flying and all iv got to say is that this gun GETS THE JOB DONE the build in range finder is just awsome when used right. been using it from mainly super long range fights against m107 m24's and yes the all mighty as50 and have won them all. iv been waging a 1 man clan war for months and short of an apachi almost gunning me down this gun has never failed me. For all those that bitch about ammo its not that hard to get 1 in five heli crashes have 10 to 20 mags on them so get a bike and go chopper hunting.

By V2Danny on 2013/02/11 at 1:17pm

I had the opposite experience of alot of other people here. Managed to secure a truck held by a russian team on my home server. 15 SVD mags in the back, but no SVD :/ Found one a week later tho.

By bassking31 on 2013/01/01 at 12:47pm

Love the gun, but the only time I've EVER found ammo for it is when I found the gun itself and in a 7.62x54mm ammo crate at a heli-crash. The crate had like 5 or 10 SVD mags, so if you can find one of those this gun is amazing. If not, you're going to run out of ammo very quickly.

By droidcommando on 2012/12/18 at 5:10pm

I always manage to find these more common then the satchel charge. Its a good looking gun though, even without the ghillie camo and is probably one of the best guns, not counting as50 and the m107, they have their own level

By Redseven on 2012/10/02 at 8:58pm

I have found 2 Svd Camo in a tent at Cherno, yeah, in the city. I took one and found some ammo to at Stary in a crashed heli. So, if you see it take it because if you search you can find ammo. Btw: can someone explain how to use the scope and zeroing?

By intheshadows on 2012/09/13 at 8:44am

@ Woolerland, It was at 080 060 at the top of the hill, can't remember what server it was though... just checked the map and that is a spawn point for that vehicle...

if intheshadows & chris both play on gb #500 server look below.

I Found a UAZ matching both your descriptions & as much i know vehicles don't spawn with items and my UAZ was stolen last friday 7/9/12

@ intheshadows

Did you find this UAZ west of myshkino?

Did you leave it near the NW airfield?

By wiLLzo7 on 2012/09/08 at 10:46am

Found one in a atv but no ammo so I swapped it for a as50 with my mate

By intheshadows on 2012/09/07 at 9:29am

Just confirming what Chrisbooyah said, I have also found a UAZ with the loot he listed plus an assortment of coloured smoke grenades

By Arkonaut on 2012/08/15 at 4:07am

Does not work with NVGs.

By Coolbreaker on 2012/07/27 at 9:51am

Can confirm that you can find the mags on crash-sites ! Just found somethin like an ammo-box wihtin: -10 mags- SVD -10 mags- DMR -10x 200 M249 Belts

By lopan on 2012/07/12 at 7:35am

major upside to this gun is its "low" audible range. It has a very muffled shot sound and is hard to place in a location you can hop around a bit, making it a very deadly gun for city sniping. As opposed to something like the AS50 that pulls an entire city of Zeds and can instantly be pin pointed.

By SatiX on 2012/07/11 at 1:31am

7999 dmg/per hit

By elephantboy99 on 2013/04/23 at 9:57am

Me and my friend found 5 of these at one heli crash... lol, we didnt even want them, GO TEAM DMR

By Operator on 2012/09/25 at 10:30pm

My friend picked up a gun like this not too long ago, with camo, same damage, all that Jazz, but the name was M20A3(Or something like it). Got it off of a dude with one of each Tool (Rangefinder,NVG,GPS, etc). Hackers seem to be afoot

By Albiorix on 2012/08/06 at 3:49am

Does this weapon work with NVG? Confirmed: NVGs Do not work while scoped in. But the rangefinding scope works well, so i swapped my DMR for this since I have a ghille suit.
