This page contains information about the mod version of DayZ. Standalone information is available here.

The FN FAL AN/PVS-4 is the scoped variant of the FN FAL battle rifle. The scope attached is the AN/PVS-4 night vision scope, with one level of magnification. It is considered to be one of the hardest weapons to find, as it is only found in helicopter crash sites.

Like the FN FAL, it features excellent accuracy and high damage over longer ranges than most infantry weapons. However, the scope is designed purely for night combat, so the night vision cannot be switched off, rendering the user almost helpless during day combat. However, it is even better than the standard FN FAL when it is used during the night, and is among the best of nighttime weapons. When using it at night, players are advised to equip NVGs to combat the blindness caused by looking into and away from the scope; if the player does not have NVGs, he may be forced to remain stationary and look through the scope for long periods of time or risk being blind when attacked.

Like its sibling, it features two fire modes, semi automatic fire and 3-round burst fire. The former is by far the best choice, as it caters to the weapon's adaptability during night combat, forcing ammo conservation and accurate shot placement, even when under duress. The latter is only useful if you need to suppress someone in a pinch by unleashing a hail of bullets towards him, or, in case if you or your squad are ambushed, provide cover fire to save you and/or your squad.

It uses a 20 round FN FAL Mag., which is loaded with 7.62x51mm NATO rounds, the same rounds that most western sniper rifles, DMR's and light machine guns (with the exception of the M249 SAW use in DayZ (and in real life). Oddly enough, their magazines or belts cannot resupply partially empty FAL mags or be converted into FAL mags and vice versa, thus severely limiting ammunition availability as FAL mags can only be found at helicopter crash sites or on dead players.

Another major drawback of the FAL AN/PVS-4 is its noise, which is high by all standards, aggroing zombies in a 180m radius. For players the radius is variable, as different players have different sound settings.

As someone who has used this in a group on group firefight at night, I would say that the night vision capabilities of this gun are absolutely game changing. Burst fire mode, with excellent accuracy, minimal bullet drop, and effective range up to 600 meters. This gun is effectively a burst fire DMR sans scope. One concern is that at night, when the night vision scope is most useful, the operator should also be outfitted with night vision goggles, because the combination of scoping in and scanning the terrain normally will cause on and off light/night blindness. Very annoying.

I hope at some point a version with better optics will be released. Even an open holo or an aimpoint scope would be a vast improvement.

When I first saw a friend with this gun I thought he'd attached the Hubble telescope to a cannon...

Lol why is this screenshot here? One guy is using nightvision and the other one obviously uses M4A1 Camo SD or somekind of M4A1. It has nothing to do with FN-FAL AN/PVS-4

Effective range: 400m

Really? I was able to shot down crouching man from 700m easily and it didn't seem as it was the max range of the weapon, I think 800m is fair for good shooter who can use it, 600m for averages.

Well, if your in a clan, and you have a camp, it's a good gun to have in a tent or truck or something just in case of a nighttime firefight.

Probably a great weapon for PVP at night when you don't have the NVGs, aside from that it's useless and FAL magazines are rare. I found one at an helicopter crash and picked it over an M249. What a mistake!

"i think that the guy taking the screenshot has fn fal pvs 4 in his hands. Although, you can barely see it cause of the nvg view limitation..."

It's plainly obvious to anyone who has ever held an L85A2 AWS that screenshot #6 of 6 is of someone holding an L85A2 AWS looking through nightvision at someone holding an M4 CCO SD.

THERE IS NO FN-FAL AN/PVS-4 INVOLVED THERE! The screenshot should be removed/replaced.

This weapon looks cool, but for me is useless. You can use it only nightly, and you must have nv for changing position. Effective range/audiable r. is bad. One shoot and all zombies on you. I droped it for AK. Is funny, but useless. Only for night bandits who disconnecting after kills. ss is here:
